Putting People at the Heart of Transnational Education: Why We Created Branch Campus Finder
When we created TNE Institute, we made a conscious decision to position ourselves as a global organisation.
Although much of our expertise is UK-led, and the UK remains one of the leading players in transnational education, our ambition was never only about the UK. From the beginning, TNE Institute was created to support the people, partnerships and practices that shape transnational education around the world.
Transnational education, often referred to as TNE, is one of the most important areas of international higher education. It allows students to access international qualifications closer to home through models such as international branch campuses, joint institutes, joint programmes, franchised degrees, validated provision and other forms of cross-border education.
But while TNE continues to grow globally, the way we talk about it often focuses heavily on systems.
We talk about frameworks, approvals, quality assurance, regulations, governance, compliance, risk management and procedures. These are all important. Good TNE cannot exist without strong academic standards, clear governance and sustainable partnership models.
However, when we focus only on processes and structures, we risk forgetting something equally important: the people behind and in front of TNE.
TNE Is About People
At its heart, transnational education is not only about policies, contracts or institutional strategies. It is about people.
It is about the academics delivering programmes across borders.
It is about the professional staff making complex partnerships work every day.
It is about institutional leaders managing international collaborations with care and responsibility.
It is about the students making life-changing education choices.
It is about parents trying to understand unfamiliar international study options.
It is about school counsellors, education agents and advisers helping families navigate complex decisions.
This people-centred purpose is why TNE Institute was created. We wanted to empower those working in TNE and make specialist knowledge more accessible to the wider sector. We believe that the people delivering, managing and experiencing TNE need better support, clearer information and stronger professional recognition.
Why Student and Parent Voices Matter
Through our journey, we also realised that student voices and parent choices are still not always placed at the forefront of TNE development.
Many discussions about transnational education happen between universities, governments, regulators and institutional partners. These conversations are essential, but students and families are often the people most directly affected by the outcomes.
For students and parents, TNE can offer exciting opportunities: access to international education closer to home, lower study costs compared with full overseas study, local cultural familiarity, and connections to global qualifications and careers.
But the information available to them is often fragmented. It can be difficult to find, hard to compare and not always written in accessible language. For non-specialists, understanding the differences between an international branch campus, a joint institute, a joint programme or another TNE model can be confusing.
This lack of accessible information can make decision-making harder for students, parents, school counsellors and education agents.
That is why we created Branch Campus Finder.
Introducing Branch Campus Finder
Branch Campus Finder is a free-to-use platform designed to help students, parents, school counsellors, education agents and wider TNE stakeholders access clearer and more transparent information about international branch campuses and other transnational education opportunities around the world.
The platform was created to support people who may not be direct TNE practitioners, but who still need to understand TNE from a student, family or advisory perspective.
Our aim is to make information about international branch campuses and TNE study options easier to discover, compare and understand.
Branch Campus Finder is part of our wider commitment to making transnational education more transparent, more accessible and more people-centred.
Making TNE More Transparent and Accessible
We believe that transparency matters.
Students and families should be able to explore international education opportunities with greater confidence. School counsellors and education agents should have access to clearer information when advising students. Universities and TNE providers should also benefit from a more informed audience that better understands the value, structure and purpose of transnational education.
Branch Campus Finder is not only a platform. It is part of a wider mission to open up access to TNE knowledge.
At TNE Institute, we will continue to support the professional development of those working in transnational education, while also helping students, parents and advisers better understand the opportunities available to them.
We Welcome Feedback
Branch Campus Finder will continue to grow and improve. We are updating and enhancing the platform, and we warmly welcome feedback from colleagues, students, parents, education agents, school counsellors, universities and partners.
Our goal is simple: to make TNE more transparent, more accessible and more people-centred.
TNE is global.
TNE is complex.
But at its heart, TNE is about people.
