Reimagining Transnational Education: Partnerships, Quality Assurance & Regulation, Innovation and Global Impact
In an increasingly interconnected world, Transnational Education (TNE) has emerged as a key enabler of access to quality education, global talent development, and sustainable international partnerships. Mauritius, through UIEH, has positioned itself as a regional hub for TNE, hosting reputable international institutions such as Middlesex University, Université Paris-Panthéon-Assas, Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Nantes, Amity University, Swansea University, Vellore Institute of Technology, and SUPINFO.
As TNE continues to evolve in response to digital transformation, geopolitical shifts, and the demand for skills-based learning, UIEH aims to bring together academic partners, policy makers, researchers, and industry actors to reflect, share experiences, and shape the next generation of cross-border education.

The 4th UK-China Teaching, Learning, and Educational Technology (TILE-TEC) Conference was held in Chengdu, China, from 22–24 May, 2026. The conference brought together academics, researchers, educators, educational developers, students, and industry professionals from the UK, China, and beyond to explore the transformative role of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in higher education, with particular emphasis on Transnational Education (TNE).
As Generative AI technologies rapidly reshape teaching, learning, assessment, and student support, higher education institutions face both unprecedented opportunities and complex challenges. These include questions of academic integrity, ethics, sustainability, staff and student preparedness, and the redefinition of pedagogical and professional roles. At the same time, AI-driven innovation offers powerful tools to enhance learning personalization, improve student engagement, support inclusive education, and promote sustainable educational practices across global and cross-cultural contexts.

CONNECT Symposium 2025
Overview
This inaugural two-day TNE symposium brought together practitioners, researchers, and policymakers from the UK, China, and other regions across Asia to exchange knowledge and share best practices in transnational education (TNE). The event focused on advancing high-quality teaching and learning, innovative curriculum design, robust quality assurance, and sustainable educational practices.
At its core, the symposium sought to navigate the intersection of Eastern and Western teaching philosophies, fostering meaningful dialogue on how these approaches can complement each other in shaping the future of TNE. Discussions also explored how institutions can respond to the emerging challenges of Generative AI, the evolving expectations of learners, and the pressures of global employability, ensuring that transnational education remains adaptive, inclusive, and future-ready.
This annual symposium aimed to:
- Foster collaboration between UK and Chinese institutions.
- Share effective quality assurance mechanisms (internal/external moderation, student engagement).
- Explore research and industry partnership opportunities.
- Discuss the realities and opportunities of teaching and working in China as international staff.
- International staff working with Chinese staff
- Support staff and institutions in navigating classrooms and cultural contexts in China.
- Explore generative AI in teaching and learning
