Unit 1: UK Transnational Education- History, Policy, Models and Partnership Practice (30 credits)

Unit 2: Delivering UK Higher Education Transnationally – Academic Practice and Student Experience (30 credits)

Unit 1: UK Transnational Education – History, Policy, Models and Partnership Practice

Indicative content: 

  • Examine the structure, standards, and qualification frameworks that underpin the UK higher education sector and how this has developed over recent years.
  • Explore and categorise the various models of transnational education and examine their characteristics, purposes, and implications.
  • Examine the role of UK quality and regulatory bodies in safeguarding academic standards and enhancing educational quality in TNE. An awareness of key regulatory bodies and their codes.
  • Examine political, economic, and cultural influences shaping TNE policy in the UK and understand how to review and understand this in host countries.
  • Assess global trends, key players, and evolving challenges in international higher education.

 
Unit 2: Delivering UK Higher Education Transnationally – Academic Practice and Student Experience
  • Critically compare, review and design curricula that align learning outcomes, teaching activities, and assessment methods to ensure quality and coherence in TNE.
  • Examine inclusive and participatory pedagogical strategies that foster student engagement and success across diverse TNE contexts.
  • Examine marking practices, internal moderation processes, and the role of external examiners in upholding academic standards in TNE.
  • Critically compare issues related to academic integrity, cultural perspectives on plagiarism, and assessment design that fosters ethical learning.
  • Describe and evaluate systems of student advising and support that promote belonging, academic resilience, and student success in TNE settings.
  • Critically compare the application of digital tools and pedagogical models for enhancing teaching and learning in fully online and hybrid TNE programmes.

Assess the UK Professional Standards Framework and support professional development through Advance HE and related bodies.

After you have completed the induction session, you will commence the web-based study component of the course. This will take place in our dedicated virtual learning environment (VLE) including online course materials, learning resources and regular tutorial support. 

Our course provides an interactive learning experience and allows you to study at your own pace. You will be encouraged to interact with other course participants, and each module will involve group activities.

Each module will be assessed by coursework and a comprehensive written assignment, video-based assessment or equivalent. 

Contact time and study hours

You should aim to study for a total of 600 hours (about 10% taught hours) over the duration of the course (9 months). The scheduling of the induction event will vary according to your cohort.
